I have just moved to Lincolnshire after having taught privately in South London for the last 20 years, with pupils ranging from primary and secondary level to adults. I have a degree in Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish joint Hons) and also completed two years study of an MBA which equates to a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience of using a wide range of styles - each appropriate to the particular age and ability of the student as well as the teaching situation. Teaching French in groups at primary level requires a different approach to teaching it on a one-to-one basis at GCSE, or for tutoring common entrance exams pupils.

Tutoring Approach

Initially I like to assess a pupil's strengths and weaknesses and also to simplify and demystify the subject with which a pupil is having difficulty. I aim to restore lost confidence and to develop a new enthusiasm for the subject.

When tutoring for entrance exams I can cover English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning if required. I work from past exam papers to ensure the pupil reaches the level required to succeed in the exam.

In regard to language learning part of my approach is to place an emphasis on the spoken word and reading in order to encourage a good accent and pronunciation as well as develop good aural recognition skills. This is not to neglect a good grounding in grammatical structure and verbs, which is also key to good language learning.
