Teaching English is the best job in the world! I enjoy supporting others, utilizing my experience and past successes, to achieve their personal best. Tutoring is an extension of this, but with the advantage of personalizing and tailoring to the student's exact starting point.
High School experience teaching KS4 (AQA) English Language and English Literature from 2012 - present, in High School. 2 years experience as an English Literature (Paper 2) Examiner. 1 Year as an English Language Examiner (Paper 1).
I enjoy engaging with evidence-informed pedagogy, which has led to a desire to constantly improve practice. Using the theories of cognitive science, breaking down tasks into manageable chunks, whilst revisiting knowledge and skills taught through retrieval activities and questioning alongside guided and independent practice has meant student mastery and increased confidence. Taught does not mean learnt, therefore continuous checking for learning at each stage is key.
