I teach Singing, Drama and Speech. I am well-spoken and I come originally from Warwickshire, although I have also lived outside the UK. I also work as a Singer and Actor.
I trained at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham School of Speech and Drama, studied at the University of Salamanca, Spain and London University. I also studied singing for six years with Antoinette Hart, Royal Academy of Music.
I have lived in other European countries and speak other languages, which is important for singers. I have a full performing CV, from childhood to the present day, and I continue to work as an Actor and Singer in stage, film and television.
These days I teach mainly from home, apart from workshops given in drama and music colleges, from time to time. My house is very clean and tidy; I have no pets. I am a non-smoker.
I have been teaching for over 30 years and that has taken in a wide variety of pupils and institutions, from children to adult. I have taught in two London private schools, have run workshops in universities and had an extensive private practice, right through from child beginners to adult professionals.
I have tutored children through specialist LAMDA and Guildhall examinations in both Singing and Speech and Drama, assisted with national examinations and coached them for roles in school productions.
On an adult level, I have taught singing technique and repertoire for singers at all levels. My professional soloist and stage experience (in Classical, Musical Theatre and studio/recording experience) has informed my skilled approach to their tuition. Passing on solid technique is most important as this training will last a lifetime.
My lessons are pupil-centered, in that I am listening out for cues from the pupil, whether child or adult, in order to meet their training and tuition needs. I am always looking for opportunities to improve confidence and make the acted piece, or song, part of their life experience. I believe that the Arts should compliment and enrich our lives.
Clear speech is most important to us all - and good speech habits learned will improve the way we interact with people at all levels, especially in the workplace.
When it comes to Acting, as a teacher, I draw upon my professional experience, life and training, with a view to giving the student a deeper understanding of the text.
Equally, when teaching Singing my extensive background as a professional Singer of many genres, I strive to pass on any knowledge which will enrich the student's learning and end result.
