Jane

A qualified teacher with over 30 years experience in primary and secondary schools in the state and independent sectors.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a class teacher and curriculum manager in primary schools and a subject teacher at secondary level teaching GCSE in English, maths and psychology, as well as being on the senior leadership team. I also teach English and psychology at A Level.

I have also taught pupils with special needs including specific learning difficulties: dyslexia & dyscalculia.

I have also been a learning support teacher in an independent boarding prep school. I have tutored pupils for entrance exams at 11+, 13+, including verbal and non verbal reasoning as well as pretests at 11+ for the major public schools such as Harrow, Eton and Rugby when I worked in London and the home counties.

My students have been successful in obtaining their first choice places at a number of local independent day schools as well as boarding places in London, the south east and north west. I have prepared students for entrance exams at a number of public schools including Harrow, Rugby and Eton as well as independent day schools in Hertfordshire, such as St Albans High School for Girls, St Columba's, St Albans Boys, St Francis Letchworth, Aldenham and Sedburgh.

I have also tutored students in the state sector in order to improve their grades. Many parents recognise the value of starting tutoring early, which enhances understanding of key concepts, enabling students to access the top sets when students get to state secondary schools.

I teach theory of music up to Grade 8 and can enter students for the Associated Board, Trinity and Guildhall examining boards. This can be taught as weekly lessons or daily focused intensives in preparation for exams.

Tutoring Approach

The learning relationship is most important in tutoring one to one in order to build confidence and succeed. I make assessments of learning in order to plan the next steps. I ensure that the tutoring lessons are enjoyable with a number of activities so that progress is achieved. I have tutored a number of pupils in recent years with great success. My students have had good exam results, getting into the schools of their choice and achieving good grades at GCSE.

I tutor students online, at my home or locally in their own home and travel on the Wirral up to 10 miles from my home.

I am available to tutor online, both nationally and internationally using zoom, Skype or WhatsApp video call. I email parents the teaching materials for use in our lesson. I email electronic resources as teaching materials for students to view on their device during tuition. Young people are very adept with technology, my youngest year 4 student manages it magnificently.
