Does your child struggle with exam technique? Do they have the right ideas but cannot translate them to paper? Do they need that extra push to ensure they reach their full potential in their exams? I provide tailored, supportive and engaging English tuition sessions that strengthen their existing knowledge, close knowledge gaps and make the process of learning fun.
I am a fully qualified Secondary English and ESOL teacher with over six years’ experience as well as being an examiner for both GCSEs and SATs examinations. Since starting out in the profession, I have enjoyed good results with my GCSE classes as well as praise from my superiors and OFSTED alike. Teaching is my vocation and my life. As William Butler Yates said: ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.’
In my current role, I am teaching the EDUQAS specification, but I also have experience of teaching the AQA exam board. I have a thorough knowledge of a variety of the set texts, including: all Shakespearian plays, all Poetry Anthologies, An Inspector Calls, Lord of the Flies, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Frankenstein, A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations and the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.
During my tuition sessions, I aim to develop the student’s learning by having:
An encouraging and focused environment where every student’s voice and ideas are respected.
Specific learning resources customised to the student’s needs, anticipated grades and exam board specification.
Engaging and fun learning resources with the use of modelled examples and writing frames.
Weekly dialogue between myself and parents to monitor the student’s progress.
Personalised 1-1 feedback to pieces of both homework and classwork.
By no means is English an easy option - it’s a challenging and provocative discipline! The key to success is not always clear cut but with some specific and direct instruction, you can greatly enhance your child’s chance of success come the end of year eleven.
If you would like to enrol your child with a tutoring session, please get in contact. I look forward to hearing from you.
