Hi, my name's James, and I'm offering my services as a tutor in the subjects of Media and Communications studies. Having completed a BA degree in Media and an MA in International Media and Communications, I currently work as an Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, teaching on both the BA and MA Media courses. I also have experience teaching on the A-Level Media syllabus.
As well as having two years experience teaching at University level, I also have had work experience in both a Primary and Secondary School. I have recently worked as a consultant teacher on an ALevel Media Studies programme at a Derbyshire Sixth Form, teaching a Year 12 class full-time. In addition, I have a mass of experience of working with children from the age of 8 - 16. My literacy and communication skills are excellent, working with Derbyshire Libraries I have vast experience in forging relationships and communicating effectively.
I am a jovial and relaxed character, making it easy to forge relationships; this means I can establish a strong bond with the student and, subsequently, heightens the chance of learning. My vast subject knowledge and excellent communicative skills give me the proficiency to transfer my knowledge, gleaned from GCSE, ALevel and University courses in Media.
I like to look at the skeleton of the syllabus, building layers of knowledge from the basic requirements of the course. Through interesting and modern examples, using relevant scholarly theory and creative methods of revision and application, I can help expand and improve on knowledge of media and communication studies.
