Hi, I'm James. I'm a qualified chartered account with a first-class degree in mathematics from Queen's University Belfast and a Masters in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Oxford. I'm new to FirstTutors but have been tutoring for over a year.

I'm offering a free first lesson so you can get a sense of how I can help you and so I can understand better what you'd like out of the tutorials. I believe that tutoring should be accessible to everyone and will be as flexible as possible on timings and accessibility.

With maths, so many people have the ability to understand and just lack the confidence on how to start.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored maths and physics at GCSE, A-Level, and degree level for specific modules in the past so I'll be familiar with any areas that you are struggling with.

I have worked with friends and family to help them through tricky periods of their studies. I have also been a mentor for ACA students working through their professional exams. I will also be available in the tutorials to discuss maths based careers and graduate options.

Tutoring Approach

Each student has their own approach to learning and I think it's important that each session is tailored to their needs.
Learning needs a safe environment to question and explore problem areas. Where possible I like to have a chat ahead of time to understand your goals so I can build classes that will help you get there.

The best way to explore maths is through practical experience, working through examples and special cases to prepare you for more independent work after the class. I will help you to work through problems that you bring along and can also prepare additional tasks for you to attempt in your own time and have marked.
