I am a 20 year old undergraduate student, studying Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh. I am in my second year, and have done elective modules in Economics and Logic. I matriculated from Michaelhouse, an all boys boarding school in South Africa, in 2019 with 5 distinctions, including distinctions in Mathematics and in Information Technology. In my first year at Edinburgh, I completed two Mathematics modules, namely 'Introduction to Linear Algebra' and 'Calculus and its Applications'. I respectively received a first and second grade in those two modules. I am now studying Discrete Mathematics and Probability, which I am thoroughly enjoying!
My teaching experience began at school, where I joined a program that entailed assisting and tutoring younger boys. After leaving school, and before coming to university, I tutored Matric (the South African equivalent to A-level) Mathematics at a School called Holy Family College. It was an eye-opening experience and really did challenge me, as many of the students were very far behind on work and the teaching resources were extremely limited. Even with this, I did manage to improve the students grades considerably.
Due to me only being able to tutor online, I will try and overcome the difficulties of online learning immediately. My approach will be personalised to each individual, consisting of the student giving me problems they are struggling with, and I will then explain the problematic topic, rather than just stating answers. After some understanding from the student I will then proceed to provide exercises, either from the students textbook or personalised exercises from me, for the student to work through. Obviously if additional learning is required, or if the student would prefer something different, I am happy to adapt to whatever needs be!
