I'm Jake, a passionate science educator with more than a decade of experience with a specialist focus on biology.
I am a qualified teacher with extensive 6th form teaching and tutoring experience of A level Biology, as well as GCSE Biology (and Chemistry and Physics) and KS3 Science.
I focus on identifying the objectives of my students and mapping out the best way for them to achieve them by prioritising effective learning techniques, a proven technique with a track record of supporting students in securing their target grades and beyond.
My services include:
- Tutoring (remedial and revision).

- Applied skills in Biology (maths and how science works)

My primary experience is:
- Over a decade of tutoring GCSE and A level Biology (primarily OCR, AQA)
- A KS3 Science and Biology (GCSE, A level and IB) teacher at an (all boys, mixed 6th form) grammar school in Kent. This has a focus on Oxbridge candidates aspiring to study medicine.
- A KS3 Science and Biology (GCSE and A level) teacher at an (all girls) independent school in Buckinghamshire. This presented a range of abilities including Oxbridge aspirants each requiring their own unique approach and 1:1 support in the classroom to deliver expectations.
- A KS3 Science, Physics (GCSE) and Biology (GCSE and A level) at a (mixed) comprehensive school in Cumbria. This presented a range of abilities including Oxbridge aspirants requiring their own support in and out of the classroom to deliver expectations.
Additional Experience:
- STEM Coordinator: Crest Award, React Foundation School Lead, Science Club(s)
- Assistant Head of Year
- Form Tutor
My tutoring approach is driven by an initially holistic assessment of a student's goals abilities and performance to determine gaps in their knowledge and skills that can either provide a pathway towards success or manage expectations appropriately to work towards the most desireable outcome.
Our first (free) session will focus on providing me with the insight to effectively tailor your learning by:
- Identifying your goals
- Current attainment
- Strengths and weaknesses
- Setting targets
- Feedback and guidance
- Next steps
Assessing examination technique is an important tool in successfully identifying how to maximise the marks you need to reach your needed grade. My tutoring is made more effective by analysing samples of your exam papers to inform my approach, whether from school, at home, or done during our sessions together.
I structure my sessions to be engaging, informative and customised to the learning needs of the individual. Whether you need support in exam technique, concept mastery, targeted revision and more I am committed to helping students achieve their academic ambitions in an encouraging and structured environment.
