I am an experienced tutor with an extensive and consistent track record of helping students achieve their full potential. I have previously worked in the legal and criminal justice sectors whilst tutoring in my spare time, but in mid-2017 I decided to become a full time tutor. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made; I am truly passionate about the subjects I teach, about working with people and about helping students I work with succeed.

By employing me as your tutor, you will not just be getting the lessons that you book, but a consistent source of support. I am always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the success of my students. In terms of my approach, first and foremost I am of course results driven. However I also believe education is about helping a pupil to learn the ability to reason towards their own conclusions and understand the processes that lead to high quality answers. Educating someone in this way not only ensures their success in the short term but also in the future. I very much bring this approach into my tutoring.

Furthermore, it is far easier to succeed in a subject you are genuinely interested in - this being the case, I really aim to get my students to engage with the topics and subjects. Some of my most rewarding moments teaching have been to watch students who previously had no interest in a subject become passionate about it. I have been trained in Motivational Interviewing and Coaching, and where it is relevant I use these tools to help motivate pupils.

I have experience teaching hard to reach children and adults, including having delivered literacy courses in a number of UK prisons. Finally, my own academic record is excellent; I hold a distinction at Masters level (LLM) and a first class undergraduate law degree, both of which I obtained whilst also working. Having said all this, the best way for you to get an idea of how I teach and how I can help you is to have a lesson, which is why I offer a half price discount for all initial lessons. Message me today if you'd like me to book you in for one!

Tutoring Experience

I have nine years of experience tutoring at various levels, with clients ranging from primary school age to undergraduates. My areas of specialist knowledge are Law and Criminal justice, and I also tutor English, Politics, History and Philosophy to A Level standard. I have experience working with children with behavioural difficulties and have also delivered literacy training in prisons. As well as direct tutoring experience, my job involves frequently delivering training.

Tutoring Approach

I am deeply interested and passionate about the subjects that I tutor. I believe that the key to effective tutoring is to actively engage the tutee and get them thinking about the subject. I believe the ultimate aim should be to empower and enable the tutee to effectively formulate their own arguments and opinions around a particular topic.

Thus my approach to tutoring is that I try and keep discussion flowing throughout and to keep topics as interesting and alive as they can be, as opposed to taking a more didactic approach.
