My name is Jade. I am a passionate, creative student in my final year of secondary school and will begin an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the University of St. Andrews this September. I enjoy debating, dancing and programming in my spare time. My subject of expertise is Mathematics, and I am able to tutor it from primary school level to SQA Higher / AS Level.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience in tutoring mathematics. Currently, I tutor more than 30 students in mathematics, often in groups of up to 6. As a tutor, I work with my students to identify their individual strengths and weaknesses in the subject, and tailor my teaching approach to meet their specific needs. I have experience tutoring in mathematics with students of various ages and skill levels, from primary school to SQA Higher / AS Level. I have also worked as a tutor for 5 students who were preparing for their 11+ examinations, and assisted all of them in receiving successful admissions into their chosen secondary school by using individualised support and assistance, and by ensuring that they all knew their exam format and content in detail.

Tutoring Approach

As a mathematics tutor, I begin by breaking down the fundamental rules and techniques of the topic that is being covered into manageable sections, and guiding the student through practice problems. I also encourage the student to attempt practice problems on their own and provide feedback and guidance on their progress. Additionally, I emphasise the importance of understanding the underlying concepts and principles of the topic being covered, rather than simply memorizing formulas and procedures. By building a strong foundation in these fundamental concepts, the student will be better equipped to tackle more complex problems in the future. As an 11+ tutor, my approach is to provide students with a thorough understanding of the exam format, as well as the specific topics covered in the exam. I also work to identify areas where each student may need additional support and tailor my teaching approach to meet their individual needs.
