Private Maths Tutor in Putney

I am Jack and I am a qualified teacher of mathematics. As an educator, my aim is to stretch and challenge students in Mathematics and raise their attainment in examinations.

With over a 1000 hours of teaching mathematics and an expert knowledge and passion for advanced topics, I am now seeking to tutor full time in order to give full attention to my clients. My primary focus is on A-Level Maths and Further Maths, UKMT and entrance exams to prestiguous universities.

I trained at highest scoring public sixth form in the country, where 33% of students have secured places at Oxford or Cambridge university. In my Year 12 Maths and Further Maths class, 100% of my students were predicted an A* in Maths and 85% of my students were predicted an A* in Further Maths.

I ascribe these incredible results to my student-led lessons, in which I employed Socratic questioning to catalyse conversations between the students and myself, a technique that allows students to discover solutions and concepts themselves so they feel involved in their own learning and hence develop a greater passion for and understanding & recall of the material. My teaching style is tailored to each individual student's interests and aspirations, and I use my vast knowledge of mathematics and its uses within the real world to make it relevant to their life and push any student far beyond the curriculum.

The first lesson will be assessing student's ability and interests in maths, before filling in gaps in knowledge. Further lessons will be going over set homeworks and learning new topics through unconventional introductions and real-life examples. I have experience working with students at all ability levels but especially for those currently struggling or lacking motivation, or those who feel they are not being adequately streched and challenged within school and need expert knowledge and study skills in order to turn their As & Bs into A*s.

My Qualifications:
- BSc in Mathematics from Imperial College London
- MSc in Mathematics from Imperial College London
- PGCE in Secondary Mathematics from University of Roehampton, with placement in KCLMS

Tutoring Experience

I have many hours of tutoring experience with pupils through tutoring from a young age, which continued into my work as a peer tutor to first year students in my time at Imperial and my work as a mentor for MEI's summer programme that prepared Y12 students for entrance exams such as MAT and STEP.

I joined King's College London Mathematics School, the highest performing state school in the UK, after graduating. I worked there as a resident mathematician to help struggling students catch up quickly through 1-1 sessions, and also taught many classes through the Outreach programmes such as MEMSE and GCSE+ for free school meals children of all ages and abilities, and continued to prepare students for entrance exams in partnership with KCL.

I then trained for my PGCE in KCLMS, having full responsibility for classes full of students that required expertise far beyond the national curriculum whilst also keeping up with my Outreach work. I had a half term in Oasis Southbank Academy teaching much larger classes with a wider range of attainments, motivating them to succeed and see the beauty in mathematics.

I have worked as a peer tutor to first year Imperial students in my Masters year over Teams, and as a mentor to Y12 students for entrance exams for MEI and KCL. I have experience interviewing many students for admission to KCLMS and often help younger cousins with maths online also, making me very experienced in online teaching.

I also have a video that I produced many years ago as an undergraduate student for a Y13 audience if you would like a glimpse of what being educated by me over the screen is like:
