Hello, I am a professional and experienced tutor, with a Classics degree from the University of Oxford looking to take on new students throughout the academic year and beyond. Currently working in schools teaching Latin and ancient Greek as part of my studies with King's College London towards a PGCE in Classics with Latin.
Having tutored for four years and with more than 1000 hours tutoring I specialise in teaching students of all ages and abilities in Latin, Ancient Greek and wider Classical studies. I have also extensive experience in tutoring History and English to a GCSE standard. Beyond pure academics, I am a successful Oxbridge application tutor, specialising in personal statements and interview preparations for most humanities degrees.
I have tutored all of the UK examination boards (WJEC, AQA, OCR and Pearson), as well as Cambridge Pre-Us. I also am experienced in both GCSE and iGCSEs.
With my years of tutoring experience, combined with the skills I have developed at Oxford, I am confident in helping my students acquire an in depth understanding of their subjects. I use a range of interactive approaches to tutoring, providing personalised guidance to my students to allow them to reach their full potential. Through a combination of wider language work and a focus on examined content, I believe any student is able to access classical languages. With good, personalised tutoring, I believe these so called "dead" languages can be brought back to life, inspiring students to great success no matter their aims.
I have extensive experience proof reading and providing criticism and advice on written work.
I have a special summer course aimed at transitioning students from Latin/Greek GCSE to A level, as well as courses aimed at rapidly improving student's understanding of both grammar and set texts in the build up to exams.
I offer a specialist summer course aimed at transitioning students from A-Level to Degree standard in Latin (using the texts that students will encounter at university), allowing students to hit the ground running as they start the next stage of their academic journey.
I also have a tailored adult learning programme which is flexible to both students ability but also the parts of the Classical World in which they are most interested.
I am able to use any and all textbooks, set texts and grammar primers which any school or university use (as well as being able to recommend my own!)
I offer both interview and CAT (Classical Aptitude Test) preparation sessions for Oxbridge candidates, the higher cost per hour reflects the extensive time I take to prepare useful and realistic practice interviews and practice papers.
My cancelation policy is any cancelation with more than 24hours notice is free of charge, 50% charge for less than 24 hours and 100% for less than 4 hours notice or an unexpected non-attendance.
