Maths and Physics Lessons in Norwich

Hello, I'm Isaac, a passionate and dedicated physics and mathematics tutor with a strong commitment to nurturing a love for learning in my students. I began my teaching journey when I tutored GCSE maths while I was studying for my A-levels. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2018 as a Master of Physics with first class honors which provided me with a broad range of academic skills and a deep understanding of mathematics and physics. Since then I have been tutoring maths, further maths and physics at GCSE and A-level both in person and remotely for 10 years.
My journey in education has led me through significant roles, including teaching and academic tutoring roles in secondary, further, pre-university, higher and continued education as well as roles in content creation, review and auditing in the edtech sector.
With a firm belief in the transformative power of education, I am dedicated to fostering a strong conceptual understanding and a genuine passion for physics and mathematics in my students.

Through personalized instruction and an engaging approach, I strive to instill confidence and inspire a lifelong love for these disciplines. I look forward to the opportunity to guide and support students on their educational journey.

Tutoring Experience

I have now been tutoring mathematics and physics for over 10 years, beginning while I was still studying at sixth form, both remotely and in person. I have tutored students ranging in ages from 14 to 27. Below I have detailed some of my roles within the education sector.

I was a Tutor of Maths and Physics at ONCAMPUS - Cambridge Education Group at Aston University for two years, where I taught a pre-university syllabus (A-level equivalent) providing comprehensive lessons in physics, mathematics, and some advanced computer science topics to a number of classes, while also teaching a foundational maths course.
Additionally, my two years time at North Leamington Secondary School in Warwickshire as part of the national tutoring programme, which was funded by the UK Department of Education, allowed me to provide invaluable one-to-one and group academic coaching to students, especially those impacted by recent the pandemic.

My role as a physics content quality auditor at the rapidly growing edutech firm StudySmarter, not only expanded my understanding of physics and maths education but also honed a laser-like precision in my understanding of the national curricula for GCSE and A-level maths and physics as well as in depth knowledge into the specifications of the main exam boards. Through my experience, I have developed a deep understanding of the intricacies of these subjects and am adept at communicating complex concepts in an accessible manner.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach has developed over the years that I have been an educator. I firmly believe that establishing a supportive and encouraging learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts, is crucial for fostering a positive attitude towards learning.

Different students learn at different rates and in a variety of different ways. Research suggests that individualizing instruction to cater to each student's specific needs, learning style, and pace is a crucial factor in successful tutoring, which is why personalised instruction is central to my tutoring style.
Through experience I have learnt that guided problem-solving followed by independent problem solving is the best way for students to engage with concepts and this is reflected in the way I approach my tutoring sessions, particularly tackling exam style questions tailored to you or your child's specific exam board/course specification.
I encourage my students to build lasting conceptual understanding rather than learn their course content via rote memory, and provide ongoing formative feedback and take time for moments of reflection on recently learned concepts, while also interleaving content from past lessons in order to promote long-term memory of concepts.
