Online Biology and French Lessons

My name is Ines and I am currently studying for a PhD in biomedical research at Imperial College London. I am French but was born and raised in Barcelona (Spain). I went to the French Lycée in Barcelona, and then moved to London to study Biology at Imperial College. I graduated from Imperial with First Class Honours. I am passionate about biology, and understand the importance of teaching other people this fascinating science. I also think that languages are one of the biggest strengths anyone can have. Having a French nationality, a Spanish culture and an English academic education, I feel very confident with all three languages. They even make me feel at home. I believe students learning languages also need to feel like the language they are learning is meaningful in a way, and this is what I will try to achieve.

Tutoring Experience

In London, I teach Biology to French Baccalaureate students (aged 15 to 18 years old) from the French school (Lycée Français de Londres).

In Barcelona, I was tutoring children from 6 to 13 years old. My main goal was to help them with their homework and supervise that all the material covered in class (any subject for those ages) was understood. I also had more "playing" time with children that were willing to learn Spanish or French. My role was to play with them only speaking the target language, to make them feel comfortable with it in a familiar situation.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is to make sure that the students develop passion for the subject. In the case of Biology, I will always relate course materials to real-life situations, so that the student understands that Biology is not only a science, but also the basis of most of what surrounds us. In the case of languages, my approach will be informal, where I will try to get the student to engage in conversations in a comfortable manner. I will also recommend movies, books and songs to aid the learning process.
