Hello! My name is Honor and I am a student at Durham University. I have lived abroad in France and Honduras and love engaging with other cultures, which is why I love to share my own. Tutoring Experience

I specialise in teaching English as a foreign language: I taught a six month intensive English course in a private bilingual school in Honduras. This course was designed to prepare students aged 7-12 from public schools with no previous knowledge of English to enter into the bilingual school. It was so rewarding to see the enormous improvement made by my students in such a short space of time, preparing them to have access to some of the best possible education in the country.
I have also tutored English literature, French and History to secondary school students. These students have just received their GCSE results, achieving levels 8 and 9, having initially come to me at a level 4 standard. Again, these were wonderful experiences - I love seeing my students grow in confidence, as well as understanding and appreciation of the subjects.

Tutoring Approach

Most importantly, I am young, friendly and approachable - I understand that coming to a tutor for help can be a very daunting step to take. Having taught a wide range of abilities and personalities, I take a very adaptable approach to teaching - this is why I love tutoring so much: I can engage with a student in the most individual way possible to cater to their unique needs. I value a sound understanding of grammar in language learning in order to be able to access the conversational aspect with as much ease and enjoyment as possible. I encourage critical and independent thinking in my students so that they are not dependent on me or a textbook to be able to tackle any question or problem. I always listen to my student and their preferences so that we are able to have fun and learn as much as possible!
