Chemistry Tutoring in Wigston

I am an early career academic at Imperial College London (about to finish my PhD in functional nanomaterials) who is committed to getting young students interested in science! My academic background gives me expertise in Chemistry from GCSE all the way up to Degree level (achieving a 1st in MSci Chemistry and a Distinction in MRes Plastic Electronics [Chemistry + Physics + Materials]). Having maintained extensive notes, I can quickly put together an action plan for learning so you can succeed.

Tutoring Experience

Supporting teaching in higher education at Imperial College London gives me hands-on teaching experience. As a senior graduate teaching assistant (GTA) I am involved with running undergraduate laboratory sessions, planning new experiments and report marking (being sure to always include constructive feedback). I have been told by multiple students I am their favourite GTA, explaining concepts clearly and always being helpful. Through my teaching activities supporting master’s students in our research group, outreach, and collaborative work I am accredited as an associate fellow of the higher education academy (AFHEA).

Throughout my time in academia, I have been involved in encouraging and supporting young students. At the University of Birmingham, where I studied Chemistry, I engaged with students as a student ambassador. This involved making them feel welcomed and helping them settle into university as they start a new period of life. At Imperial, I also get involved in outreach activities with prospective students and public engagement through Imperial festivals.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in a dynamic approach towards tutoring, starting with discovering what the student wishes to gain from the sessions to tailor the sessions to you (I will happily meet free of charge to find out about this and so we can meet each other). Through going through fundamentals of areas you wish to improve in, combined with hands-on problem solving and visual aids to apply the knowledge learnt, we can effectively learn some fun science!

Note: For in-person tutoring, an additional £5 will be charged on top of the base fee.
