Hi, I’m Harriet. I’m a fully qualified and experienced English teacher, now supporting local families as a private tutor.
GCSE season can be an incredibly difficult time for young people and their families, and English is a notoriously difficult subject to study for. I help families get family time back by providing bespoke private tutoring, with excellent outcomes.
Trained at UCL’s Institute of Education — the world’s leading education institution for over a decade — I have an in-depth understanding of the most effective teaching techniques. With years of experience as a secondary school English teacher in various schools around London, I provide practical tips and meaningful strategies to help my students achieve their full potential.
With the right tutor, private tutoring can be a transformative investment for the whole family. By inviting me into your home to support your child or children with their school work, family time can go back to being about family. No more nagging or shouting, just time to be together, with the school work done and out of the way.

I have been teaching since 2011 – first as a swimming coach, then as a theatre school teacher, learning support assistant and finally as a fully qualified English and drama teacher in North London. Working with students of all ages and abilities across a range of educational settings, I have spent years learning how to connect with students and find out exactly how best to support them and ensure they can meet their goals. My background as a fully qualified English and drama teacher, alongside my experience in special educational needs support, allows me to tailor lessons to suit the unique needs of every student.
Secondary School Teaching & Curriculum Development:
From 2021 to 2023, I taught English and drama at Alexandra Park School, an OFSTED “Outstanding” school in North London. Teaching over 360 students per week, I developed strong organisational skills and the ability to engage students with diverse learning styles. I led curriculum projects in both English and drama, designing schemes of work and learning resources that are still in use today.
As a form tutor, I built strong relationships with students and families, ensuring learners felt supported both academically and personally. I have extensive experience preparing students for GCSEs and other assessments, helping them build confidence in essay writing, literary analysis, and public speaking.
After leaving APS, I worked in a range of London schools as a supply teacher, quickly adapting to new curricula and classroom environments. This experience strengthened my ability to deliver engaging lessons on short notice, manage different learning needs, and maintain high levels of student engagement.
Special Educational Needs (SEND) Support:
Before qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a Learning Support Assistant, focusing on students with special educational needs and disabilities. I developed personalised learning strategies, adapted lesson content, and provided one-on-one and small-group support to ensure accessibility for all learners. My experience with autism awareness, speech and language provision, and selective mutism has equipped me with the skills to support students who need a more tailored approach. My dedication to student success was recognised in instances where I helped learners — particularly those with SEND — produce their most advanced work yet.
I’m a firm believer that good SEND teaching practices are just good teaching practices — meaning that every student should have access to this level of tailored support. This is where private tutoring comes in. By ensuring that lessons are structured to meet each student’s individual learning needs, whether they require additional support with processing information, building executive functioning skills, or developing confidence in their abilities, I create a learning environment where they can thrive.
All of my experience informs my tutoring approach: I focus on making learning accessible, engaging, and tailored to each student’s goals. Whether working towards exams, improving general literacy skills, or building confidence in written and spoken English, I provide structured, student-centred support that delivers real results.
I believe in a student-centred approach, building lessons around each individual’s needs. Whether in-person or online, I provide clear feedback, structured learning plans, and engaging resources to ensure real progress.
For online tutoring, I use Skype and Google Docs to create an interactive, flexible, and transparent learning experience, with detailed lesson summaries and feedback for parents after every lesson.
