Guillaume

Private Online English and Philosophy / Critical Thinking Tutor

My name is Guillaume and I have a total passion for all kinds of art. I love helping other young artists and older aspiring artists, writers, and art historians to professionally develop their own confidence, skills and passion.

I am based in South-East London and my specialisation is with post-war and contemporary European, American, and international art. I studied my undergraduate and postgraduate studies in art history at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London between 2010 and 2015 focusing especially on East Asian art specialising in Japanese, Korean and Chinese art. I received a distinction for my undergraduate thesis on Yayoi Kusama and a distinction for my master's thesis and degree overall.

I am especially interested in contextualising diaspora and global art, exploring postmodernism and a more integrated aesthetic between art and the world.

Tutoring Experience

Alongside my undergraduate and postgraduate studies in art history, receiving a distinction for my master's degree in contemporary art and art theory, I have worked continuously worked since 2009 as an arts professional at several museums in New York City and London including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Wellcome Collection, where I was very involved with both museum education, live events, and audience engagement, and community outreach, especially with children, young people, and families.

My work ranged from museum education and audience engagement to community outreach , especially with children, young people, and families, which is a key reason why I am comfortable and confident offering 1-1 tutoring for these age groups. I have recently done tutoring at a university level (BA and MA) and helped two students studying cultural studies and art theory receive an upper second class honours and distinction, respectively.

In addition, I have experience working directly with contemporary artists writing short texts, blurbs, and successful proposals for commissions, grants, exhibitions and projects to create projects.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is very personal, light, and relaxed. I began 1-1 tutoring students doing their BA and MA in art history, and now feel confident to take on both younger and older students. My goal is to help the student feel that their interpretation is valid, while ensuring that they understand the various nuances involved in studying art history. I have recently helped two students studying cultural studies and art theory and they received a 2:1 (upper second class honours) and distinction, respectively. In addition, I have experience working directly with contemporary artists writing short texts, blurbs, and successful proposals for commissions, grants, exhibitions and projects. This means that I know how to successfully approach galleries and organisations looking to fund workshops, events and exhibitions.

I also offer small group tuition of students aged 7 years old and above. This can be as a regular weekly session or as an ad hoc workshop or birthday party with a difference. My experience with MK Gallery, Milton Keynes as an associate artist has given me the opportunity to lead workshops for children, teenagers and at-risk youth for groups of upto 15 young people. As an artist in residence at Kettles Yard, Cambridge, I also lead workshops for primary school children, adults whose first language is not English and seniors aged 65 and above.

Some additional notes:
1. I will split the introduction fee with you 50/50;
