Goncalo

Gonçalo's first musical steps were taken quite early. While still in primary school he had piano and theory initiation for two years and, although his love for music was there since a child, the piano didn't click with him.
When he was 15 years old, he started studying guitar lessons and immediately became obsessed with the instrument and studied intensely to develop a solid knowledge of the basics and beyond. By the time he was 17 he was already gigging regularly with function groups. For the next few years, his dedication for the instrument kept growing and he feverously kept learning different genres while developing is own style.
By 20 years old he focused on studying and playing Jazz and started a Jazz Performance Degree at JBJazz, a private jazz school in Lisbon, where he studied with some of the best musicians in Portugal. For the next three years, he kept developing as a jazz musician, gigging regularly with a trio around Lisbon. Highlight of this time was performing at the Hot Club of Lisbon, performing the music of Bernardo Moreira, one’s of Portugal’s great Jazz masters.
At 24 he moved to London to attend an undergraduate in Popular Music Performance at the University of East London. During this time, he has been introduced to a whole new level of musicianship through his teachers, his colleagues and the people he has worked with. Playing with different artists, embracing new instruments and skills, as piano, percussion, arranging skills, recording and releasing 2 full-length albums, working with label Dreamscope Records and gigging regularly, his appreciation and love for music and guitar is more focused than ever. Any and every challenge that the future brings will be dealt with fearless love and dedication of someone who knows what they want for their future.

Tutoring Experience

I’ve been teaching privately for 11 years. As a professional musician I have real world experience with a vast number of genres and circumstances. As a teacher, I’ve had experience with individual and group lessons and different age groups. I have the experience and the knowledge to adapt to the student’s demands and adjust so that the lessons is engaging and exciting, as well as achievable.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that music is learned the best when the student is allowed to walk on his own, even if that feels uncomfortable at the beginning. I believe in creating a strong and clear foundation and then allow the students to express themselves, and embracing the challenges and mistakes, because that is where the best music is learned
