Kit Man

Gloria is a native Cantonese speaker who was borne and grown up in Hong Kong. Her qualifications and professionalism has enabled her to acquire an excellent language proficiency in Chinese, both Cantonese and Mandarin. Her dissertation of MA in Chinese Linguistics was about the study of Cantonese slang in a specific context, which led her to obtain a Distinction and Scholarship Award upon graduation. She also loves to be a creative writer, who won the double Championship in the Chinese Classical Poetry Recitation Competition as well as the Chinese Essay Writing Competition. Moreover, she was the winner of the Cantonese/Mandarin speech group at the HK Schools Speech Festival for several years and the best debater in the School House competition back in her college time.

Tutoring Experience

With her excellent spoken and written language skills, she has been a private tutor in teaching the Chinese language for school and public examinations. While she was a full-time editor at Pearson Education Group for writing and editing Chinese Textbooks, she engaged herself in conducting Cantonese classes for postgraduate students from mainland China at Hong Kong Baptist University as a part-time tutor. After working in the largest training organisation in Hong Kong, she became an excellent facilitator in conducting workshops on various topics. She always receives the highest score of feedback from students with her interactive and interesting teaching skills.

Interactive, student-centred, real-life examples, discussion and self-reflection are the main teaching approaches of Gloria. She loves to talk with students and enjoys teaching and learning in a relaxing atmosphere without pressure and tension. She believes every student can benefit most from her lesson by identifying the clear learning outcomes and ultimate goals that are set together.
