I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with both a QTS and PGCE (with honors). I am also the Art and Design Technology lead and the Senior Mental Health Lead for my school (I trained with the Anna Freud Centre). I absolutely adore dogs and between work can be found walking them and writing stories. I have a passion for art and love to draw.
I have taught lessons to all primary aged children with the majority of my time being a class teacher for Y4 and Y5. I have many EAL students and I am used to engaging with children and educating them in English when it is not their first language. I have had tutoring clients before and due to a thorough knowledge of the curriculum I am able to link their work with what they are learning in school.
My approach to tutoring is the same to my class. A child’s mindset and well-being comes first. Without that, they may get questions right but they will not remember the methods and techniques.
I push children to challenge themselves as far as they can knowing that mistakes are marvellous because they generate new neurones in our brains that help us learn.
When teaching English I like to learn through a text, as grammar on its own can be but once a child sees it’s purpose it clicks. I am a hands on learner and therefore teach maths using a wide range of resources from dienes, to cubes, dice and games. When learning is fun it is worthwhile.
