I am a dedicated, experienced and professional English and Drama teacher with strong communication skills, now seeking teaching work closer to home or online. I have a degree in English from Durham University and worked for many years as a professional actress before beginning my teaching career. In recent years, I have been Director of Drama at Repton School and Christ’s Hospital, in charge of both the academic and co-curricular provision. I have also written and taught courses in Acting and Voice for undergraduates at New York University. I am an experienced examiner and have been a team leader for OCR and CIE (I)GCSE English Literature. My teaching and directing experience with school and university students is extensive and varied and my professional acting work is also wide ranging and includes theatre performances across the UK and USA; television work as both an actress and presenter; film; radio; voiceover and concert work. I enjoy working with young people and believe strongly in the importance and transformative potential of education.

Tutoring Approach

Every student has different educational needs therefore my approach to teaching is to ensure that those individual needs are met and that each student is given the educational tools and strategies to empower them as an independent learner. I try to help students develop an enthusiasm and love for learning which will, in turn, allow them to realise their academic potential. As an experienced teacher and examiner, I am very aware of the pressure and expectations that students experience at school and beyond and I therefore try to be as flexible, creative and engaging as possible in my approach to teaching. I am also able to provide those students studying for public examinations with a clear, structured and well planned course of study which allows them to achieve academic success.
