Filip

I started teaching during my undergraduate, where I lived and worked in the townships of Johannesburg, South Africa, during the summer. Here I taught mathematics at all levels to classes of up to 50 students. I then carried this passion on by tutoring during and after my studies.

In 2022, I studied for a Mathematics PGCE at The University of Oxford where I taught throughout the year in schools in Oxfordshire.

I am passionate about teaching and mathematics and have always hoped that I can use my expertise to enable others to understand this sometimes confusing subject.

Tutoring Experience

07/2018 - 09/2018. I worked in a township in South Africa teaching mathematics up to A-level to classes of various abilities.

01/2022 - 09/2022. I worked at a local tuition centre after work where I developed my teaching further. Here I was able to focus more on individual teaching rather than classroom or group teaching.

09/2022 - 06/2023. I studied for a PGCE in mathematics at Oxford where I was able to read literature and have complex discussions about education and mathematics theory. Throughout this year I also taught in secondary school around Oxfordshire.

Tutoring Approach

I think approach can change and tailor relative to the students needs. Generally, however, I believe it is best for students to figure things out for themselves rather than relying on rote learning. I believe this to not only be more impactful but also more enjoyable to the student.

Regarding sessions, I like to take the first session just to get to know the student and potentially evaluate their ability through some initial mathematics questions. Given that this is just a preliminary session, I generally don’t charge for this and payments can begin the following session.
