I'm Eve, of Study English with Eve!
I have worked as an English, History, 11+ and essay-skills tutor for 3 years. I also hold two degrees (one postgraduate, one undergraduate) in Law from University of Manchester, and I have a TEFL Qualification. I have over 5 years of collective experience working with children. I'm confident, friendly and very smiley - which is why my clients can relate to and feel at ease in our 1:1 lessons!

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored English as a Foreign Language, GCSE English Literature and Language, History, 11+ and essay-skills for 3 years, beginning during the pandemic, and continuing alongside my degree studies, to now being a tutor full-time! My clients range in age from 6 to 48 years old, and I am currently working with 11 on a long-term basis. I have some spare slots and am looking to expand my client-base.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring maxim is patient, consistent and flexible.
Patience means explaining concepts in an engaged manner and using examples to illustrate my point. Consistency means regular lessons, always assigning homework for practice, marking and emailing parents after-class to ensure we are all working together to help the student to attain their goal.
Flexibility means I will adapt to a students' learning style to ensure they understand content (even making up songs to get them engaged with techniques they struggle to remember!)

This approach is student-centred, as I aim to create an open dialogue with my students. They are encouraged to ask questions throughout sessions, and I maintain a relaxed environment in our sessions to keep them at-ease. Many of my reviews specify how much students' confidence has risen as a result of working with me.
My hourly rate includes bespoke tailor-made lessons plans' based on students' needs, homework assigned and marked each lesson, monthly assessments to ensure the students' progress is on-track, a de-brief email with parents' after each session, an error record typed during class to record their mistakes to send to parents afterwards, weekly reading recommendations, and a parents' evening slot every month for 20 minutes for a check-in.
The bespoke lesson plans I design are based on my excellent knowledge of the national curriculum for my students taking their GCSE, A-level or 11+ exams. I use past papers to ensure relevant practice, and am firm in my lessons. I engage my students to ensure they stay focused and on-track, and I am consistent with my behavioural expectations. Lateness, or non-completion of homework is not tolerated.
Please get in touch with any questions or queries. All students (including and especially those with additional learning needs, mental health needs or behavioural problems) are always welcome!
