Online Italian and Spanish Teacher

I am a dynamic, enthusiastic, and knowledgable individual who appreciate critical thinking and reasoning based on humanistic values. I enjoy nature and appreciate sustainability, and I am making the effort to connect nature and the Humanities in a holistic and less impactful lifestyle.

Tutoring Experience

I am a lecturer at t Redbrick University with more than a decade of experience in the classroom teaching Spanish and Portuguese, as well as Latin American literatures and cultures, cinema, critical thought, literary criticism, and media studies.

Tutoring Approach

My personal viewpoint on teaching is as simple as it is utopian: it is an act of giving that can change people’s life. The radicalism of this statement lies between the circulation of notions and transmissible experiences. The way in which I see myself in the learning and formation process of my students is in the role of a moderator between their experiences as individuals, my own, and the relations that arise from the circulation of these backgrounds with the subject I teach. For this reason, every individual learner possesses its own personality and dynamic and as tutor I approach this diversity holistically by engaging with the learner's interests and connect them to the subject matter. Every time I applied these conditions, I experienced that the learning involvement became more effective as personal engagement suit a compelling environment in which the learner is eager to know more about the cultural and linguistic subjects I teach.
The lively nature of languages compels me to approach teaching with a similar dynamism. Teaching a language, as I have approached it thus far, is not only a rule-imposing activity on grammar and phonology but also, and more importantly, a cultural matter. By being an Italian who does not teach his own native language, at the beginning of my practice as a Spanish instructor I used to feel a sense of lack and awkwardness while standing in front of my students. However, I soon realized that my own experience could alleviate the common psychological anxiety of those students who, for any reason, believe they cannot comply with the requirements of the course or with the challenge of acquiring a second language “If I could do it, I don’t see why you can’t! You could be in my place, teaching Spanish, in a couple of years from now, if you want to!”—I urge them when they imagine that they face a dead-end path. At the same time, I can foresee the typical critical points in which learners find themselves trapped. In addition, being a nonnative speaker gives me cultural insight¬—or the “privilege” as Claire Kramsch put it—that can be communicated to my students. For instance, the majority of the students I have had until now never traveled overseas, and many relied on stereotypical conceptions and clichés when imagining other cultures. My role as a cultures mediator is to demystify those ideas and concepts in order to make those individuals think.
