I have always had a passion for English literature and history, and this has fuelled my desire to teach students of all ages and abilities to build on their comprehension skills and grow their confidence. I aim to instil a love of literature or at the very least have my students become more comfortable with understanding English literature and using it to their advantage, be that exams or improving their reading skills. I have spent the last decade teaching English literature alongside studying for my PhD in Literature, which I received in 2023.
I have been teaching students of all ages for over a decade from Year 6 SATs to MA dissertations. I have experience in teaching a range of different exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, IB and also teach literacy and reading comprehension for all ages. I have supported students in their academic writing and have experience teaching University classes, as well as supporting students with their public speaking skills from class projects up to formal conference presentations.
I take a student-tailored approach to all of my lessons. I work with my students (and their parents where appropriate) to set out their goals, understand where their current skill levels are, and make lesson plans that are adapted to each student's learning methods to keep them engaged and interested, while also challenging them without pushing too far, too fast. I keep things calm and focused, checking in with my students to map their progress, making adjustments as needed.
