Online Maths and Biology Teacher

I am a first year PHD student at the University of Birmingham, studying the effects of a Mediterranean diet on vascular function. In 2023 I graduated from the University of Birmingham with first class honours degree in BSc Biomedical Science, also winning the prize for being the only student to achieve a first class mark in every module of third year, and also The Physiological Society prize for Best Overall Student. I achieved an A* at A level in Biology and Mathematics, and an A grade in Spanish in 2020. In 2018 I achieved three 9s (Biology, Maths and spanish), five 8s (Chemistry, Physics, Religious Studies, English Literature, and geography), one 7 (English Language) and one A (Further mathematics) at GCSE level.

Tutoring Experience

When I was in year 10 of secondary school I completed a week of work experience, teaching Spanish at secondary school level, as well as regularly helping my own school's Spanish department in making resources and teaching lessons. In year 12 I spent a week in Spain, teaching primary and secondary age Spanish children English, Maths and Science. During the second and third years of my undergraduate degree I was a PASS (peer assisted study support) leader, meaning that I helped tutor first and second year students. recently, during the first year of my PHD I taught third year undergraduate students a cardiovascular experimental protocol for them to carry out independently.

Tutoring Approach

I am a calm, patient tutor, and will try to use a variety of different approaches to help students understand any difficult topics. I strongly believe that discussing a subject area by making the student explain topics back to me is crucial in the learning process and helps cement concepts. I will create a variety of visually appealing resources and worksheets to promote practice within and between sessions. As a very visual learner myself, I find this extremely helpful, however I will quickly find out the student's learning style and will accommodate and modify resources to suit this.
