Hello there! My name is Elliot, and I am a professional musician and actor from Herefordshire, who is now based in West Hampstead, North London. I have an extensive knowledge of both the academic and artistic aspects of Music and Drama following my first class Degree in Musical Theatre from the University of Greenwich. Since graduating, I have been balancing tutoring Music and Drama between professional acting roles, which include the title role in Dorian Gray, Rolf in The Sound of Music, and the No.1 UK Tours of Grease and Sister Act. I have also been playing my musical instruments at some of the most renowned venues in the world, such as the Royal Albert Hall, London and Carnegie Hall, New York.
In terms of Music, I am able to teach GSCE/A Level Music specifications as well as Voice, Piano, Trumpet, Music Theory, and Composition. In terms of Drama I can teach most GSCE/A Level syllabuses as well as preparing students for auditions to drama schools or university. In addition to these, I also have great experience in entering and preparing students for LAMDA and Trinity exams for both Acting and Musical Theatre, in addition to ABRSM exams in Voice, Piano, Trumpet and Music Theory.
I have been teaching people of all ages for over 7 years now in between my professional work, both privately and through external educational establishments. I hold permanent positions in Music, Drama, Dance and Singing at various academies and performing arts institutions in London, including the Wandsworth Music Centre and the Platinum Academy. It is here that I teach young students the first elements of music and drama, all the way up to students in their late teens who need help preparing for their GCSEs, A Levels, LAMDA and ABRSM exams and University/Drama School Auditions. My experience as a teaching assistant at an SEN school also means that I am used to adapting my lessons to help people who have learning disabilities.
Although I believe that teaching is about more than good results, my students tend to achieve high standards, with my last LAMDA exam season seeing over 95% of students achieve a distinction in their Acting and Musical Theatre qualifications. I understand that some students need certain grades to attend a certain University or College, so it is just as important to me that they achieve such grades so they can live out their dreams and future goals, regardless if they're related to Music or Drama.
My approach is always to ensure that the student and teacher is on the same level of status. I always find that students learn best when the teacher tutors them as an equal, so that they not only have fun, but also feel confident to debate, ask questions and take creative risks. I do this by creating a relaxed environment with various contrasting learning methods which constantly stimulate the student so they don't become bored.
I also cater every single lesson or course to the students wants, needs and aspirations. Whether a class is for an exam, an audition, or purely just for fun, it is highly important to me that I am teaching in a way that meets the students needs rather than what I deem they should want. This includes building students' confidence levels and teaching students with learning disabilities in an appropriate manner that is specific to them. I tend to balance both the practical and academic side of Music and Drama so that the student learns both practically and critically, and I like to add more games and challenges to engage the younger students!
I am experienced and equipped to teach online, or in person, either at my apartment or at your own home.
