I have 30 years teaching experience at secondary level and have taught across the full age and ability range. I also have over 11 years experience as a private tutor and have helped students from year 5 to university undergraduate level. In Nov 2015 I began tutoring a student who was home schooled for medical reasons and can offer this service during the daytime if required.
In 2022 I helped a Year 13 English Literature student who came to me at Grade C level and with very low self esteem. This young lady went on to achieve a Grade A and is now studying Law at university. In August 2023, my GCSE tutee achieved a Grade 6 in English Language and a Grade 8 in English Literature. His entry level grades at the start of tuition were 4 and 4.
Tutoring can be daunting for learners of all ages, so I always make sure that my students feel happy and relaxed in my care. My resources are extensive and fully linked to the latest assessment criteria. My fee includes marking and assessment and I always keep parents updated with regular feedback.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught English and English Literature at every level from primary to student teachers embarking on a P.G.C.E. My employment in schools covers both state and private schools. My experience includes many different exam boards and I have a proven track record of getting excellent exam results.
During my career I have been a form tutor to all age groups; building strong pupil-teacher relationships.
Working with parents to support their child is something I advocate, so do not be afraid to comment, suggest, request etc....

Tutoring Approach

My aims are to ease fears and raise confidence, as well as raising achievement. I can make tutoring fun and my students tell me they look forward to the sessions. I spend a great deal of time planning lessons and giving regular targets and progress reports. I like my students to see where they are going and feel encouraged by the progress they are making. Above all I feel that I am adaptable to the needs of each student I tutor and I really enjoy working on a one-to one basis.
