My name is Eliza and I am currently in my fourth year of my Biomedical Science degree at the University of Warwick. I am part of the Biology society and the Trampolining club, in which I will be the competition secretary in the next academic year.
Before starting University, I was a volunteer karate instructor. During this role, I helped to run the sessions and aided children aged 4-14 each week. After this, I was offered a paid instructor position. This gave me a chance to work on my confidence, teamworking and patience skills that I had started to work on when volunteering. I am also currently a mentor as part of the Biology Society at my University where I help my mentees if they have any questions or need help with any content.
I think it is best to lead interactive sessions with the student for example, using past paper questions and worksheets to apply the knowledge learnt. I, personally, like this method and believe it works well to understand how the questions are asked and how you are expected to answer them. Additionally, I believe that it is helpful to go through the content and figure out which parts the student knows well, not so well and not at all. This means that we can be clear from the start which parts the student is confident with so that we are not going over them lots unnecessarily.
