I am a second year History PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge where I specialise in global modern history. I have particular expertise in British history, colonialism and the history of the Middle East but my training and transferable skills allow me to teach on any area of history. I am a highly organised and proactive individual with strong communication skills and a creative and empathetic approach to tutoring. As a published writer of several comment pieces for online magazines and having achieved A* English A Level I also provide English literature and language tuition.
Before beginning the PhD I worked in a number of archiving, research, fashion, and communications roles in the UK and Italy.
I have a wide range of teaching experience having tutored individuals and groups at both adult and secondary school level. In 2022 I designed and ran history source analysis workshops for GCSE and A Level students in UK schools. These workshops combined sources from international archives relating to the modern Middle East, its global connections and the impact of British colonialism. I have also tutored numerous individuals over the years helping them to achieve success in GCSE and A Level exams. I was selected for the competitive British Council English Language Assistant teaching programme which led me to teach in a secondary school in Italy between 2018-2019.
As a Historian engaged in archival research I provide practical coaching on how to visually and linguistically analyse sources and situate them in their wider context and secondary literature. I teach writing skills to improve students' essay structure, vocabulary and fluency and can review and correct practice essays. I am familiar with various GCSE and A Level curricula and respective exam boards and root my teaching in exam marking schemes. Given my knowledge of the UK university system I instil in students transferable skills and long lasting methods which they can continue to use throughout their higher education and across subjects.
