I currently have availability for GCSE Maths exam tuition. I have taught Maths in South London for over decade, including more than 5 years as a Head of Department, and therefore have in-depth knowledge of the current Maths curriculum. I place a great value in clear explanations and ensuring topics are taught in an appropriate order to maximise understanding, reduce confusion and grow confidence. My experience of marking exam papers means I can coach students in exam technique nearer to the exam, to ensure they are getting the maximum marks possible.
I am currently a senior leader at a leading virtual school and therefore know how best to utilise technology to get results. I have been a secondary Maths teacher for more than 10 years, but I began tutoring at the age of 16, working for a big tuition centre whilst studying my A Levels. Since then I have constantly tutored and taught, working in schools, tutoring centres and doing 1-1 tuition.
My 11+ tutoring students have gained entry to state grammar schools such as Tiffin and Nonsuch, as well as selective private schools such as Kings College School Wimbledon and Latymer Upper School. My GCSE students have achieved grades ranging from 4s to 9s, depending on their personal targets.
I believe that consistency is key. I also believe that it is important to know how topics link together, which topics form the basis of future learning, and which topics are more or less likely to appear on exam papers. This is where my school leadership gives my students the edge. My GCSE students get outstanding results through tried and tested methods of constantly revisiting topics and feeling confident enough to give any question a go. I am very aware that there are a number of students who find maths "scary", and it is my mission to give them the tools and confidence to tackle even the trickiest of problem solving questions. Whether my student is aiming for a grade 3 or a grade 9, I have high expectations of those I teach and tutor, treating them with the kindness and respect needed to build a successful learning environment.
