I live with my partner in south Milton Keynes. Between us, we have six children and nine grandchildren. I love reading, going to the cinema, travelling, meeting friends and family and visiting new places.
I teach part-time in a state school in Milton Keynes. I qualified as a teacher when I was 40 years old and have now been teaching for 20 years. I have taught in primary schools for 10 years and middle schools in Bedfordshire (Years 5-8) for 10 years. My experience has been in Years 4 to 8, teaching English full -time at middle school but now, in primary, teaching all subjects except for PE and music. I have taught Year 6 for the majority of my teaching time, preparing them for the SATs, usually teaching the higher ability groups for both English and maths. I have tutored for several years, ranging from Year 5 children up to Year 8 (maths). One of my tutees, who I taught for two years, is autistic whereas others have simply lacked confidence or needed an extra boost prior to SATs.
My approach is tailored to the needs of the child. I enjoy challenging children, hence the fact I usually teach the higher ability. However, as with any teacher, I have taught a range of abilities including those with special educational needs where my approach needs to be different. This is the beauty of tutoring, where I can sit 1:1 with a child and find the best way of teaching that child in order to reach their full potential.
