I am married with two sons, of which the youngest is in the first year of his A level studies, whilst the eldest is at University. I am a helper at a local Rainbow Guide unit and enjoy the outdoors.

Tutoring Experience

I qualified as a primary school teacher in 1991 and since this time I have been teaching in schools, as well as providing music tuition privately. Tutoring online is another recent important string to my bow. Across all these areas, I derive a great measure of pride and gratification in the progress made by my students.
I was a class teacher at a local Primary school for over twenty years covering the full range of year groups. During this time I was responsible, as part of the mathematics team, for the planning and assessment of lessons.
My other responsibilities within the school included Health and Safety and IT. For the last eight years I have remained committed to teaching young children in my role as a supply teacher in a variety of schools. Alongside this I have cultivated a portfolio of private music students across all ages.
I continue to keep myself updated in current teaching methodology and in developments/changes in safeguarding and child protection procedures. I have an enhanced DBS.

Tutoring Approach

I use a friendly, child-centred approach. I aim to build confidence in my pupils so that they can apply their mathematical skills to the challenges presented to them in the classroom. One-to-one tuition enables me to maintain a tight focus on their individual learning needs. The client and I agree the areas they wish to study and I continually assess the student’s learning to ensure their understanding and progression. I cater for the individual’s learning style. Due to Covid restrictions, I tutor online only, using Skype and email in order to distribute appropriate resources.
