Maths Teacher in Skelmersdale

I am a qualified teacher (see below) living in West Lancashire and currently working as a maths tutor. As stated below, I have recently worked for the National Teaching and Advisory Service (for over 4 and a half years) during the day. In addition to this, I have my own private tuition business, tutoring maths. I am looking to expand this, ideally but not exclusively, into the daytime.
I also run a local church youth club and am therefore on the DBS update service as a volunteer. Amongst my hobbies are table tennis and writing.

Tutoring Experience

I am a fully trained primary school teacher, qualifying in 1992. I came out of full time teaching in 2008 (due to stress and anxiety) where I set up as a private maths tutor. For several years, I was also an associate maths consultant, working for a number of independent settings. In addition to this, I worked as a maths intervention tutor in Woodland Primary School in Skelmersdale up to 2018. More recently, I have worked for the National Teaching and Advisory Service, tutoring 1:1 with children who are not in school (for a variety of reasons). In this role, I tutored a range of maths from KS1 to Entry level, Functional Skills level 1 and 2 and GCSE.
Although I am primary trained, I have tutored GCSE maths (Higher and Foundation) since 2008. In fact most of my work is with KS4 students.

Tutoring Approach

I believe maths should be appreciated and explored and will try to deliver a hands on, investigative approach to learning. Learners need to be taught to think and solve problems as well as learn processes and skills.
Very often, classroom maths lessons fail to take into account the individual learning styles of the pupils. My 1:1 approach will always aim to deliver lessons that match the learning style of the pupil.
If parents are prepared to play a part in supporting the tuition, I will set homework tasks that enrich and consolidate what has been learned in the lesson.
As a dedicated professional I will always aim to give 100% in each lesson I teach so that pupils gain maximum benefit from their tuition. The lessons usually follow a basic structure with clear objectives at the beginning plus a recap of prior learning. They will end with a plenary where pupils can reflect and consilidate their learning. This approach helps to increase the impact of the teaching.
Finally, I am friendly and work with patience to ensure the pupils are able to understand work and above all, feel confident about what they have achieved.
