I am an experienced GCSE English Language examiner and am currently Head of English. I thoroughly enjoy my job which is reflected through the passion and enthusiasm I bring to my teaching. As a result, the students I teach all make fantastic progress.

My role within school focuses on improving attainment and results, organising exams and targeting intervention. My experience not only allows me to support students academically, but also enables me to support young people through the strenuous exam periods throughout their school career.

I have a passion for my subjects that I instil in to the pupils I teach; this is reflected in the progress my students make. With a degree in English and Drama, as well as an MA in Media, I firmly believe that one of my key strengths is that I have a broad understanding of each of these subjects that provides me the tools required to deliver outstanding teaching and tutoring to the students I work with.

Tutoring Experience

Being an examiner for an exam board has provided me with in-depth knowledge and a shrewd understanding of what skills are required for each level. Thus, I am able to implement this knowledge into my lessons with my own students, as well as those that I tutor.

I am currently working at a grammar school that achieved 99% 5-9 last year, with 68.7% of the cohort achieving an 8 or 9 so I understand the needs of students who are looking to secure these challenging grades-and the skills required to push them into these top levels.

In contrast, my previous school was based in involved working with a range of pupils of varying abilities, including students with EAL or SEN and so I constantly adapt my teaching based on the needs of the students I am working with.

I also teach Literature at A-Level and this year, 85% of my students achieved or surpassed their target grade on the papers I taught. In addition, I also have experience of teaching Drama up to KS5, as well as setting up and launching the delivery of Film and Media Studies at A-Level.

I have experience of teaching and tutoring students the OCR, Edexcel, Edquas and iGCSE exam specifications-with exceptional results to support.

Tutoring Approach

I strongly believe that the only way for a child to learn is to work through a problem; I do not spoon-feed any of my pupils as it does not benefit them and actually hinders them. Therefore, the most important thing to me is building a rapport with students so that tackling a problem together is easy; I feel that this is one of my key strengths as a teacher.

Secondly, I also take into consideration using visual, auditory and kinaesthetic teaching methods to suit each child's individual style and needs. I adapt and cater my teaching style to suit the needs of specific individuals, therefore, if any tutee needs to study a particular text or has an area that they feel needs developing, I will ensure that these are implemented in to the sessions.
