I am an outgoing, patient and supportive teacher with over fourteen years of experience in the classroom, with the last five years as Head of English at an outstanding grammar school. In addition to this, I am an experience examiner for AQA and now work for the UK's largest awarding organisation, supporting teachers with their delivery of exams.

I love working with young people and ensuring all students make the best progress that they possibly can and this is reflected through the passion and enthusiasm I bring to my teaching in and outside of the classroom.

My role within school focused on improving attainment and results, organising exams and targeting intervention. My experience not only allows me to support students academically, but also enables me to support young people through the strenuous exam periods throughout their school career.

I have a passion for my subjects that I instil in to the pupils I teach; this is reflected in the progress my students make. With a degree in English and Drama, as well as an MA in Media, I firmly believe that one of my key strengths is that I have a broad understanding of each of these subjects that provides me the tools required to deliver outstanding teaching and tutoring to the students I work with.

Tutoring Experience

Throughout my career, I have taught the following exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, IGCSE Edexcel, CIE, Eduqas/WJEC and OCR. In addition, my experience as Head of English, as well as an examiner has provided me with in-depth knowledge and a shrewd understanding of what skills are required for each level/grade across these different exam boards. Thus, I am able to implement this knowledge into lessons with my tutees and ensure that they fully understand what they need to do in order to make rapid progress and feel confident.

In my role as Head of English, achieved 99% grades 5-9, with 58.7% achieving a 7-9, and 100% of my A-Level students achieved an A*-C so I understand the needs of students who are looking to secure these challenging grades-and the skills required to push them into these top levels.

In contrast, my previous school involved working with a range of pupils of varying abilities and included supporting a large proportion of pupils with EAL or SEND.

I also have experience of teaching Drama up to KS5, as well as setting up and launching the delivery of Film and Media Studies at A-Level.

Consequently, I constantly adapt my teaching based on the needs of the students I am working with and ensure that each one feels confident and secure in their learning and work at a pace that suits them.

Tutoring Approach

I strongly believe that the only way for a child to learn is to work through a problem and to feel confident in learning from mistakes and consolidating their knowledge moving forward. Therefore, the most important thing to me is building a rapport with students so that tackling a problem together is easy.

Secondly, I also take into consideration using visual, auditory and kinaesthetic teaching methods to suit each child's individual style and needs. I adapt and cater my teaching style to suit the needs of specific individuals, therefore, if any tutee needs to study a particular text or has an area that they feel needs developing, I will ensure that these are implemented in to the sessions.
