Tutoring Approach

My approach is entirely based on the individual student and not possible to detail. Every student has a different level, facility, pace, and talent. An empathetic and evolving approach is everything and this is what I offer.

As far as my approach to the piano itself is concerned, I am trained primarily in the Russian School of Igumnov and Goldenweiser etc as well as the principles of Claudio Arrau which emphasise a reduction in tension as well as the application of arm and body weight in creating a more harmonious relationship with the instrument. This is best illustrated in a consultation lesson as many books have been written about this subject and still do not give a fully accurate picture.

I can teach anyone at any level provided the fit between us is good and I feel I can help. I do not teach people I cannot help.

Lessons vary in length but a good guide is an hour. If a student is working on complex repertoire I can easily go on for longer than this. Again, I can only advise on what will suit each individual student once I have met them - as well as understood their own goals.
