Tutoring Experience

I taught students from all ages (KS123 GCSE) up to A levels, teaching all types of examination boards (AQA EdExcel OCR) and all types of optional units. I taught students preparing for STEP II or STEP III for those preparing for top universities. I also have a lot of experience in teaching IB maths, both standard and higher, and SAT or ACT for students preparing for American universities.
Taught 11+, 13+, various scholarship and entrance exams for schools such as Eton, Harrow, Winchester, St Paul, King's College school, Sevenoaks, Hurtwood House, Kingston Grammar, Tiffin Boys, Sutton Grammar, Wilson, St Georges, Lancing College, Brighton College and many more.
I have prepare students for all kinds of maths challenges such as JMC IMC SMC and all the Olympiads and team challenges.
I have met over 700 students in the last 21 years, so I know what is needed for different individuals. I approach differently for different needs and I have long experience of listening and understanding to what student is really asking. After 21 years of teaching students, I realise that most important thing in teaching is not saying a lot but listening carefully to what student is saying. There has always been new gadgets and new ways of teaching students throughout history, but what is most important in education is that learning happens in student's head. Teacher's role is to encourage, excite, guide and inspire students to learn. I like using all sorts of methods like books, IPAD, youtube and so on. However, in the end, learning is best done through social interactions - teacher and student.

Tutoring Approach

In maths, it is important to find gap in the knowledge and to build foundation. Many students say they understand the basics from school work but exams are different. They need to build the foundation and then be able to apply their knowledge in applied questions. I do various exam questions with students so that they can build exam techniques.
