I am a former Deputy Head focused on teaching children in Years 3 to 6. As a school teacher, my observed lessons always received the highest rating, including being graded outstanding by Ofsted. As a tutor, I am experienced in helping children pass entrance exams to some of England’s highest rated senior schools.

Helping children improve is what I love to do, and I am passionate about them enjoying the learning process. It is because of this passion that I am now dedicating my time to tutoring rather than managing a school.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a member of the Senior Leadership Team in every school I have worked in, including both the independent and state sectors. My subject experience includes being a Head of English, a specialist maths teacher and a teacher of verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

My other responsibilities and achievements include:
• Being singled out for praise in an Ofsted report for “using questioning to develop understanding."
• Training school teachers on how to teach and plan their lessons effectively and evaluate children’s progress.
• Forming excellent relationships with parents who have expressed gratitude for their children’s development and enjoyment of learning.

Tutoring Approach

My first step is to understand the learning needs of the child so that lessons can be tailored to his or her needs. I have taught children of all abilities and, consequently, have a lot of experience in differentiating my teaching to best suit the individual child rather than just following a predetermined programme. This focused support can accelerate progress, conquer challenging topics and deliver success in exams.

My teaching does not simply focus on an end goal though; I want children to enjoy learning. In my experience, children learn best when they are engaged and confident. I therefore choose tasks that I feel the child will relish and provide positive feedback so that achievements, no matter how big or small, are recognised and celebrated.
