Online French and Economics Tuition

I am a current student at the University of Oxford reading French. I am enthusiastic and passionate about the language and academic studies in general, enjoying tutoring and teaching others in my spare time: I am a subject representative for the university. Outside of academic affairs, I am an active member of the university competing for the Oxford University Dancesport Society, and performing in the Oxford Millenium Orchestra. I have also worked as a youth volunteer, helping lead and run camps for young teenagers over the summer.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently preparing for leading a camp of several hundred teenagers between ages eleven and sixteen in Hong Kong and China as a Camp Director. As part of this role, I have run training workshops for those I will be leading, focussing on developing the necessary skills required to teach. I have also myself participated in several education workshops, further improving my skills in teaching and developing lessons for others.

As a subject representative for the University of Oxford, I have helped run a French Insight Day, assisting tutors in running academic workshops and providing advice for French exams, with a particular focus on the MLAT - the test that all students are required to take to apply to Oxford for Modern Languages.

As part of my work as a freelance translator for Quora, for which I have been commended for my proficiency in the language, I have responded to several hundreds of questions about French grammar, helping students of language improve their understanding of its complex rules.

I have tutored several students in Pre-U French and A-level economics as a volunteer during my studies, preparing revision notes and model answers. Regarding French, I particularly focussed on oral competency, for which I have been frequently commended (scoring 100% in the module in the exam).

I have privately tutored five students in French, Maths and Sciences up to GCSE standard. I am proud to have raised their grades and improved their confidence in problem areas.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor my teaching method to every student so it differs from person to person. However, as a general guideline, I start with an initial assessment of your ability and then work from there having discovered what type of learner you are.

For visual learners, I try to use diagrams (for economics) and pictures (for French) as much as possible to assist in the assimilation of information.

For reading/writing learners, I use my own written examples in addition to exercises to assist in the learning process more so than I would for a visual learner, as this will prove to be more effective.

For auditory learners, I permit the recording of our sessions so that you can go back and recap what we covered without worrying about not remembering it all.

In addition to this, for those who want French tuition, I put a huge emphasis on grammar based learning and immersion, as these are the skills that I believe are crucial to improving in the language and was instrumental in helping me.

I always listen to my students and adapt my learning to what they want, so if you want a particular approach to be taken do not hesitate to let me know!
