Private Physics and Chemistry Tutor in Melton Mowbray

A biologist and all-round science enthusiast. I am fascinated by all aspects of science and like to keep up to date with current scientific issues. Inspired by my parents, teachers and some of the great science communicators (Sir Attenborough, Brian Cox, Stephen Hawking and Richard Feynman) I'd like to share my knowledge with others.

After graduating from uni with a biology degree I worked in a veterinary practice and as a tree surgeon before moving in to scientific research at Southampton uni where i remained for over 10 years. In 2012 I completed my PGCE in secondary science at Leicester uni and then taught GCSE and A-level science at schools around the Leicester area. I have recently returned to research work but miss teaching and would like to continue tutoring on a one to one basis or in small groups.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught each of the science subjects up to GCSE level and Biology up to A-level, and am familiar with each of the exam boards and their syllabi as well as the necessary and all important exam techniques.

Tutoring Approach

i tailor my lessons to the needs and requirements of the individual students and as such like to get to know them initially to find out about their learning styles and needs.I will provide an initial session free of charge in order to do this, and this will also give the tutee the opportunity to find out if I am suitable for them.
When tutoring I ensure a good knowledge base and understanding of the key concepts are gained, but will then also help them to understand how this knowledge can be applied to relevant situations. To do this I like to use new and current scientific examples and my background in research helps with this. Detailed understanding that can be supported by relevant evidence and examples are what the exam boards look for in order to gain the higher marks.
Most importantly I like to keep the sessions fun and interesting.
