Private Maths and Physics Tuition in Cardigan

I am passionate about learning and teaching, but my first love is the sciences and maths. This comes across in my teaching as I work hard to make these usually dry and boring subjects as interesting and fun to learn as possible. I have a very strong maths and physics basis and I am very capable of teaching biology and chemistry up to A-Level. I am friendly, patient, calm and approachable. I will challenge you to be your best without undermining your confidence.
I did not have an easy road academically. I struggled with dyslexia and accessing support. I have experienced many successes and failures during my academic career. I learnt how to become resilient and keep trying again. These skills are built into my teaching approach.
I understand how important receiving the right help can be.

I have recently submitted my PhD for review, so I have a flexible schedule. I am happy to work any day of the week, from 9:00 to 19:00. I live near Nevern and I can travel anywhere in Pembrokeshire and south Ceredigion. However, an additional travel cost will apply, depending on the distance. I am also happy to tutor via Zoom. The length of the lesson is flexible, the posted rates are for a complete hour. I am also a conversational welsh speaker.

Tutoring Experience

I have a high 2:1 MPhys (Masters in Physics) from Cardiff University. For the last 4 years I have worked on my PhD in physics and am awaiting the award confirmation. So, for the last 8+ years, I have been emerged in the latest physics research. I have a lot of experience explaining complex or counterintuitive concepts in an accessible and interesting way. For the past 10 years I have helped many friends and family successfully gain A-Level and GCSE qualifications in maths, physics, biology and chemistry.

While completing my PhD, I also acquired 3 years of experience of teaching/demonstrating in the undergraduate physics department. As a part of that experience, I completed an associate fellowship teaching qualification. I am very knowledgable on how to create an inclusive, comprehensive and engaging study plan that will pave the way to success.

Tutoring Approach

I am a pupil-centred teaching practitioner. My approach is tailored to you. In the first free session, I assess my pupil’s strengths and weaknesses to design the best way to teach them.
I am comfortable with both traditional and slightly more unconventional methods: my only aim is to help you achieve the best of what you can do. My teaching methods also emphasise learning to find the answer yourself. I won’t teach you repeat empty facts. I teach how to make connections between information and how to find that information for yourself. This will not only help with the immediate exams the student may have, but with future ones too. I can work well with students with specific learning needs, such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. I work with my students at their pace and with their expectations in mind. The joint objective is a successful outcome, be that a pass or an A*.

I understand the new curriculum for Wales and the impact this had on the students. I am aware of the new ALN guidelines and I am comfortable engaging with a diverse range of pupils regardless of learning ability; this includes MAT students (more able and talented). I keep up to date on syllabus changes and am extremely adaptable to changing methodology or content.
