Tutoring Experience

Hello and thank you for viewing my page. I am a well experienced maths teacher and tutor.

I have worked in mainstream schools and two alternative provision supporting students of varying needs, providing individual and tailored programmes of learning and engagement. I have also worked as a full time intervention teacher, specialising in analysing data for small groups of students and creating my own scheme of work to guide these students through exams and boost progress within maths. I have experience teaching mathematics for nine years and have been a private tutor for 8 years. I have a range of experience tutoring from year 6 to year 11 for both higher and foundation, providing appropriate resources and supporting with exam preparation. I also have tutored year 6 SATS, KS3, GCSE in a range of exam boards and functional skills. In addition I have been marking GCSE exam papers since 2014, so I am very experienced with knowing where and how marks are allocated and common misconceptions and mistakes made by students. I have excellent subject knowledge within mathematics and a wide range of resources available for use with students for their area of study.

Tutoring Approach

My approach depends on the needs of the student and their requests. These are how I approach my lessons:
For all lessons I have a starter prepared of 10 questions that require students to recall previous learning. These are differentiated to the students ability and need, and I will make note of any topics students want more support of.
Following the starter I will take a few different approaches. I will either have prepared resources on a topic the students are learning in class. Learning alongside their lessons often promotes confidence. Alternatively I can work through past papers with students to support them with exam confidence.
