Maths and English Lessons in Paisley

My name is Claire and I have been a primary school teacher for 4 years. Prior to this, I worked in various fields, including clinical research, accounts, insurance and children’s sports coaching. I also love to travel and spent many years living and working in South Africa, so I have a vast amount of life and work experience.

First and foremost, I am a mother to two amazing children. I asked my 7-year old for 3 words to describe me: “Kind. Positive. Lovely”. I asked my 12-year old and her response was “Beautiful. Loving. Caring.” (I’ll pay them later!!)

I thrive on the little “lightbulb moments” when something has clicked and you know the child has “got it”. It is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding feelings to know that you have helped a child understand a new concept. However, I am also aware of how challenging it can be for little ones to learn, and as a parent, how difficult it can be to fully support this. I am so passionate about every child getting the best start in life and reaching their full potential and would love to help break down any barriers to learning that might stand in your little one’s way. I find my patient, calm, friendly and nurturing nature helps to put children at ease, which means we can form a really positive relationship based on mutual trust and respect, which is a vital foundation on which we can build.

I would love to help your child feel more confident in their abilities, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think I could help. I am positive I can.

Currently, I am available at the weekend and on a Thursday during the day. There is potentially scope for me to do some evening work as well - please just ask and I can see what I can do.

Tutoring Experience

In my 4 years of teaching, I have taught across all primary school stages, from Primary 1 to 7. I have also worked with children with additional supports needs, including autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour, as well as children who have experienced traumatic life events.

Prior to going into teacher, I volunteered in a school for a year, where I worked in small groups doing more targeted literacy and numeracy tasks.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in getting it right for every child, and at the heart of this is getting to know the child, building a good relationship with them and finding out what works best for them. I try to make learning as fun and engaging as possible, and this may be in the form of active games, outdoor learning, the use of technology etc. However, this does not work for everyone. Some children require structure and repetition and may just prefer to do written work.

In short, I am flexible and will respond and adapt to your child’s needs. One size does not fit all, so I will always get to know your child first and work out what is best for them. The work we do together will always be tailor-made to suit your child, targeting the areas they find most challenging and we will work together in partnership.
