Tutoring Experience

My previous experience (12 years) in both an early years setting as an early years practitioner and later as a childminder has equipped me with the ability to understand learning and development from birth through the school stages. I believe this knowledge and experience has helped in my current role and allows me to see the progression through the stages and also understand the effects of early childhood experiences on development and emotional well being. My past experience has also influenced the kind of practitioner I am and as a result I place a large emphasis on nurture within my class. During my time teaching I have learned more about the nurture principles and this has ignited an interest which I would like to develop further by accessing Solihull training in the future. Another area I have experience in, given one year spent working in an independent day and residential school for autistic young people, is working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The knowledge gained during this previous post has proved beneficial in helping some children in my primary class to reach their full potential with an understanding of the barriers they face and helping them to regulate emotions and understand their school world. I also have experience in working with complex care needs as a result of caring for a 2 year old 3 days per week for one year.

Tutoring Approach

My classes are interactive, varied and fully customisable. I will carry out an initial assessment to learn exactly where the child is in their learning and plan lessons from here, working alongside parents. I use a whole brain teaching method to maximise engagement and retention.
