I have over 12 years’ experience of tutoring Maths and Science on a full and part time basis in the UK and abroad. I promote a relaxed and informal atmosphere during my tuition sessions to make the learning process as comfortable and effective as possible.

I am passionate about maths & science communication and helping young people to understand the world we live in. My tutoring career has shown me the value of one-one classes; for rapid gains in school results and for instilling long-term confidence so the student continues to improve, with reduced stress and greater focus.

Tutoring Experience

I started tutoring privately while I was completing my studies at the University of London and continued ever since. I have coordinated and managed tutoring programs for companies and NGO’s where I have been responsible for content development while supporting and training new tutors.

I have assisted students studying the following curricula: KS3, GCSE, A Level, IGCSE, International A levels & International Baccalaureate; and I keep myself up to date with any changes to structure or content.

I am experienced in working with neuro-divergent students: for example young people who are dyslexic, autistic or have mental health challenges. As such I always structure my lessons accordingly to any individuals learning style and requirements.

While the majority of my teaching experience has been at high school level; I have also worked in extracurricular maths and science programs for primary school children, on the other extreme I have tutored at 1st year technical college and university level. This breadth of age groups has given me a sound understanding of how mathematics and scientific conceptualising begins; as well as the skills and knowledge needed for students to be prepared for their post school education.

Tutoring Approach

I fully believe that the subjects should be approached with enthusiasm and the students must be involved throughout the session. My students are welcome to ask questions at any time and I am always more than happy to elaborate on answers or clarify if there is any confusion.

I tailor each class around the students’ needs, whether that is additional support with their current school curriculum, returning to older topics that need to be strengthened or preparation for tests and exams. I have found that empowering young people to decide what they need to work on gives them self-motivation to achieve their potential. However I understand this can be overwhelming so I will offer guidance if necessary. In addition, if a student shows an interest in a particular topic, I can always extend beyond the scope of the set curriculum.

My lessons take place in an online classroom, where I upload worksheets, info-graphics and work through questions on the interactive whiteboard. I also encourage my students to share homework or tests they have completed at school with me, so we can use our sessions to identify any gaps in their knowledge, develop problem solving skills, improve on answer structures and work on strategies that will help improve future performance.#/k#
