Hello, fellow students! I am a fresh graduate with bachelor degree of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds. I am a dedicated, enthusiastic, friendly Math tutor. I have developed proficiency to explaining complex concept in simple language, to adjust the teaching pace to cater student’s need, to adapt flexible approaches to address various learning challenges. I believe that, with proper approach, everyone could appreciate Math and eventually master it. I am keen to get into deep level of Math concept, and provide graphical figure to support student’s understanding.
Out of my passion for Math, I used to act as a Chairperson in Math Society in high school, which gave me a hands-on experience on creating teaching material for students with diverse academic background and delivering them in plain, concise manner. With my expertise in Math, I have extensive experience in joining inter-school Math competition and awarded various prices for outstanding performance. Upon entering the University of Leeds, I continually leveraged my skills and techniques in engineering sector by measuring the motion impact brought to the mechanical structure. After graduating from the university, I have further enhanced my competence on Math and am now to deliver them to students with need of exam technique and course content.
With my experience of learning in Covid-19 period, I established a solid understanding on delivering teaching material, with the aid of technology tools and online platforms, in virtual environment. I would also implement some interactive tools for arousing student’s interest on particular topic.
• I joined the Peer scheme in high school from 2013 – 2015, acting as mentor for junior students with special need on subjects, such as Math and Science-related subject. I shared my insight on cracking down complicated concept and offered guidance on completing related homework. Setting up various academic milestones on students’ learning journey, I provided students with support in achieving them, resulting in massive improvement in students’ grades.
• At the second year of university journey, I volunteered to become a peer mentor for fresh engineering students. I periodically organized group-meeting at which mentee could raise any question regarding to teaching module. Utilizing my verbal communication skills, I was able to explaining engineering theory in grounded, simplified way and offered reliable resources for practice purposes. I also capable of devise effective strategies that aid mentees’ learning experiences.
As developing a comprehensive understanding plays a vital role in committing Math theory to memory, I would firstly give students a thorough explanation on the topic. To optimize the teaching quality, I would also give some daily examples which this theory may potentially be applied to. Depending on their understanding, I would adjust my teaching pace and solely focus on areas that require additional clarification. If appropriate, I would also implement graphical figure and video resource to help students better visualize the concept.
Ensuring students have developed sufficient understanding on the topic, I would provide some practice questions to train students skill in applying them in real-life scenarios. To make sure the students get the most from this, I would browse resources from online platform and published textbook. That would include rotating across different question nature and changing the calculation methodology.
