Hello, I’m Dr Christopher Banham and it is my pleasure to be able to bring to you the benefit of my 21 years’ experience as an educator!
I first became a teacher while studying for my PhD at the University of Leeds, where I taught History and study skills to undergraduate classes. I also took on my first private tuition clients, from the local sixth form college.
Come the end of my studies, I knew I wanted to teach for life! My next destination had to be Leeds Trinity University, renowned for the quality of its PGCE. Such a challenging course and such tough placements! At the end, though, I was ready for anything in the profession.
Onward to my first secondary school post, Teacher of Humanities in a small independent school. I taught five subjects in my first year: History, Geography, Religious Studies, Classics, PHSE! Another tough one, but an ever-growing understanding of these interconnected subjects enhanced my ability to teach all of them.
I kept teaching and kept learning. After two years, and now in the state sector, I became Head of Religious Studies, and within five I was Director of Learning for Humanities. I was also appointed as a Specialist Leader in Education, helping other schools in Yorkshire to improve their humanities teaching. In more recent years I joined the ranks of senior leadership as Assistant Headteacher.
Now in 2024 I’m leaving the classroom. Not leaving education, just looking for a new way, where I can really use all my skills and experience to have an even more positive impact on even more young lives.
If you’re looking to unlock your potential in History, Geography or Religious Studies, get in touch. I’m really looking forward to working with so many of you this year!
