I believe I have a relaxed, friendly and easy -to -get -to - know personality. For over 30 years I have worked delivering training and coaching in teamwork and customer service and 12 years working with overseas students tutoring English language
My outside interests include the sea and ships, dinghy sailing, the countryside and local history. I am a Friend of our local theatre here in Shanklin

Tutoring Experience

In 2003, I completed an ESOL CELTA course. This was put to good use when working with mature students on management courses I ran overseas which has included work in Eastern Europe, the Gulf, and Hong Kong.
In 2009, I worked here on the Isle of Wight teaching English for EFL, and in the years 2011 to 2016, with student groups at summer schools arranged through EuroPartner. In 2017, 18, and 19, I taught English with student groups organised with AWO Jugendwerk, Pinneberg, Germany. I have also undertaken one-to-one language coaching for young students from Belarus and home tutored students with Home Language International. In 2019 and 2020 I had the privilege of working with two Syrian refugee families here in the Isle of Wight to introduce them to the English language.
I also have a contract with the Isle of Wight College to teach English to students studying with the International Department. Through IW College, I have an Enhanced DBS for working with children and young adults.

Tutoring Approach

My approach in teaching and coaching is to facilitate sessions that are designed to build confidence in both spoken and written language I have a love of our English language and hope I share this love with my students.
I always use a variety of materials and approaches. I believe that any lesson or coaching session should focus on where the student is today and their ambitions for progress. My lessons include an element of fun. Students learn best and remember most when they are relaxed and smiling: Praise, encouragement, and giving opportunity to practice are vital ingredients in any learning experience and I believe my language teaching and coaching includes all of these!
